“When I grow up, I want to be a doctor, so I can help my people.”
Alice Mahoro lives in Uganda, one of the most impoverished countries in the world. Uganda, slightly smaller than the state of Oregon, is located in East Africa; it borders the countries of South Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Frequent civil wars in Uganda during the 1970s and 1980s led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and left many children orphaned. Families and communities continue to experience extreme hardship, including widespread HIV/AIDS, malaria, and myriad preventable diseases. Due to a lack of physicians and resources, most children and families still cannot afford healthcare. In addition, most families find sending their children to school too expensive, which hinders their opportunity to escape the brutal cycle of poverty.
By sponsoring Alice, you make a huge difference in her life! You give her the opportunity to go to school, receive health care, and be mentored by caring adults at Bible Club.
